Where We Work

East Palo Alto

Palo Alto is known as a hub of education and new ideas – it’s the home of countless leaders in the tech-industry and the site of Stanford University’s campus. But in the East Palo Alto district, on the other side of the freeway from Palo Alto and where College Track has made its home, only 29 percent of African-American students and 36 percent of Hispanic students graduate meeting the California state college readiness standards. This inequality has long been the norm. It’s why in 1997, College Track opened the doors of a small, store-front center to twenty-seven students in the Sequoia Union High School District. Since then, College Track has grown and expanded into a fixture in the East Palo Alto community. Today, College Track East Palo Alto serves over 523 high school students who attend high schools in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City.

Led by Site Director, Patrice Berry, we’ve helped 360 students graduate from high school and 129 students graduate from college. We’re so proud of these students, but we know we must provide even stronger support so that all of our scholars can earn a college degree.
